This Statement Bothered Me

A fellow Christian leader said something very like this, "I don't know anyone who got into heaven because of what they did, or anyone who didn't get into heaven because of what they did."

That is a paraphrase, but it is pretty close. Before I comment on it, I am wondering if those few people who read my blog might weigh in with their thoughts. There is something about this statement that seems wrong to me, but I would very much like other people's thoughts.

presupposing what 'he' knows. He doesn't know.

God's word is clear.... faith in him alone. Our faith is seen by our actions. Sounds like he is negating the importance of actions, and not seeing faith as part of the picture at all.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Kind of an unusual statement and one that is open to a lot of interpretation (especially depending on where he comes from on the Calvinism/Arminianism spectrum). I try to avoid statements that are so open ended.

If the speaker was saying that works cannot save, then this is a true statement. If the speaker is saying that works are irrelevant to the saved, then he is wrong. I think I need more of the context to understand the point he was trying to make. Generally speaking, I would address this sort of thing with James.
